The interdisciplinary institute for "Linguistics and Grammar Teaching" aims to meet the basic research and teaching needs of the Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral degree programmes of the cooperating departments in the scientific field of linguistics. It also aims to promote linguistic research and the application of linguistic knowledge in teaching. More specifically, it aims to emphasise on the role of theoretical linguistics in the teaching of the mother tongue and foreign languages, in the description and teaching of grammar in the Greek educational system (at primary and secondary school), linking foreign languages to the mother tongue. The Institute utilises the results of comparative analysis of languages within the framework of theoretical linguistics and researches their application in teaching practice with regard to the development of linguistic competence and cognition as well as the critical literacy of learners.
